A belated final update
Fundraising for Oxfam via Gifts for Heather has now finished. I would like to thank *ALL* those who donated what they could, and also those who took the time to join in the bus trip (even if it was just for a few minutes to say Hi as we passed through). For those of you who do not know, the final total we raised (including Gift Aid) was £8800 - yes £8800 !!!
That is over FOUR times the original target of £2129.
The money has been split over the following Oxfam projects ...
£2129 - as originally planned this went to buy the two "large" unwrapped gifts - funding a school classroom, and restocking a school library.
£3000 - this has gone towards the large education project Oxfam has been running in Mali, one of Africa's poorest nations, where £750000 is being raised to support education projects within the country
£3671 - this has gone to the East Africa Famine Relief programme that Oxfam is part of. This will go to help millions of poor and starving people in East Africa where the drought has been relentless and food stocks have been running low.
In late November, Alan, myself plus two of our band of travellers, Ben Morroll and Simon Brown joined us in Bristol to hand over to Alice Byron from Oxfam a symbolic cheque for the amount raised.
Attached are photos of the handover (many thanks to Phil Halewood for taking the photos !) and also photos of the display Alan managed to arrange in his local Oxfam shop in Romford after the event, and finally a photo of the two montages I have produced of all the "banner" shots that now appear on the wall here in Okehampton.
So, once again a massive thank you for all your hard work. I hope to do something again in 2014 so watch this space.
In the meantime if you want to continue to support the work of Oxfam (even if just in a very small way) take a look at http://www.oxfam.org.uk/shop/oxfam-unwrapped
All the best for 2012 and beyond
Richard
